The Toy Store

06.30.2009

One of my long-time favorite sites on the web is Adam and Gillian’s Sensual Whips and Toys, a purveyor of the finest bdsm accessories on the planet. You won’t find precious wood paddles here. Such items have their place, but Adam and Gillian are aiming for that price/performance sweet spot. The few items over $200 are priced appropriately for the solid workmanship involved. The paddles, floggers, canes and single-tails they sell are beautiful, but in a functional way.

A Story that Must be Written

06.27.2009

There’s a certain story that lands in the slush pile so often that it is a cliché.  A woman (petite except for her enormous breasts, Asian or half-Asian or other “exotic” race) decides on a sudden whim to sign up for training in sexual slavery.  A thin veneer of scifi is provided by mentioning that society supports legally-binding slave contracts.  The woman is stripped naked and put through a “training” regime in which she doesn’t actually learn anything, but is subjected to every sexual practice that punches the author’s buttons (and in some cases, nobody else’s).  Then she is sold off to the perfect master and lives happily after, pussy shaved and butt plugged, until she gets older and she gets stretch marks.  These stories are always named “[exotic name]’s Journey.”

Is the world ready for Zombie Porn?

06.25.2009

Unfortunately, the story that landed in today’s slush pile will not be the one that answers that question. It was a poorly-written, poorly-proofread collection of run-on sentences pertaining to two men who had lost their previous partners in the Zombie Wars deciding that life was worth living after all and having sex. It is as if this author had never written science fiction before, and decided to give it a shot by writing 2500 words of uninspiring m/m sex and mentioning a sci-fi-ish topic that’s gotten a lot of attention recently.

Anyway. Ravenous Romance is reportedly polling its readers about their feelings towards zombie romance, so who knows? Zombie porn could be coming to an ebook distributor near you.

Just not this story.

Thank you, that will be all for now.

Up For Grabs: Exploring the Worlds of Gender
edited by Lauren P. Burka

With stories by Vinnie Tesla, Anya Levin, David D. Levine, Zachary Jernigan, and Ellen Tevault.

Up for Grabs is my first editing project with Circlet Press.

Read an anthology of erotic stories where gender is up for grabs. Thousands of people spend time on the Internet identified with a gender other than the one they were born with, for erotic gratification or to stretch their imaginations. But we asked our writers what if you got a tax break for changing your gender? What if you could choose to be no gender at all until you went on a date? What are the implications, both sexual and social, of gender possibilities beyond the choices and ideas our society currently holds.

  • Praise for “Mate.”

    06.13.2009

I wrote the stories in Mate years ago. The Circlet Press publication is dated 1992, but the stories were written at least a year before that and posted on USENET, an early precursor of the World Wide Web. I’ve been surprised how well these stories held up over the years. Even when “Mate” was out of print and hadn’t yet been converted to an ebook by Circlet, I’d receive a couple of notes per year, often from folks who read my stories from an archive, praising the old stories and inquiring after new ones.

I’d have to say the nicest piece of praise ever showed up in my mailbox today. Let me show you what PD Singer has to say about “Mate: and more tales from the erotic edge of sf/fantasy.”

The ebook itself is available from Circlet Press

I’ll never look at Cheetos the same way again

    06.03.2009

My author chat is ongoing today at Torquere Press’s LJ. I posted the first chapter of Wishbone (which you can also find at an earlier post here). One of the comments says “Holy cheetos, that was eye-crossing hott!:D”

I suppose I have to get off my butt, get the final edits into Wishbone, and send that baby off to the publisher. :)

    Reminder: Author Chat Wednesday

    06.02.2009

I invite everyone to join me for an author chat Wednesday, to take place on Torquere Press’s Live Journal Community. I will be giving away a few electronic copies of “The Memorial Garden” and probably a couple of hard copies of my first Circlet Press publication, Mate: And More Stories from the Erotic Edge of SF/Fantasy. If people are interested, I’ll post teasers from upcoming projects and some obscure older fiction. I will also chat about whatever is on my mind, which will probably include influences on my writing, upcoming projects, and small black cats. You don’t need a Live Journal account in order to see the chat.

    Bullets for Doctors

    05.31.2009

About fifteen years ago I got a phone call from my little sister. She was in tears. She was alone in my parents’ house because they were on a vacation on a weekend when Dad came up on Operation Rescue’s list. They called the house to threaten Dad because he was a practicing obstetrician who would not sign their antiabortion pledge.

Dad was, and is, completely committed to womens’ health. He treated poor immigrant women for free, and for more years than I can count, he woke up in the middle of the night to see new life into the world. He was a comfort and a trusted confidante to the sick and the well.

    And they dared threaten him.

Rest in peace, George Tiller. You will be missed.
